After enjoying a boat cruise through Nakama River, home to Japan’s largest mangrove forest on Iriomote Island, ride a water buffalo cart across the shallow sea to Yubu Island. This small island, approximately 2km in circumference, is a subtropical botanical garden. Enjoy a walk around the island and savor a traditional Okinawan-style lunch at the on-site restaurant. Iriomote Island, registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in 2021, is home to many rare plants and animals. During the water buffalo cart ride to Yubu Island, enjoy scenic views of Okinawa’s shallow seas. The tour also stops by the Wildlife Conservation Center, a base for protecting the Iriomote wildcat. You can view specimens and video materials about the Iriomote wildcat and other animals inhabiting Iriomote Island—animals that are rarely seen even on the island. ※Please note that the stop may be skipped on the center’s closing days or during peak congestion.
