Start your day with a relaxing boat cruise through the Nakama River, home to Japan’s largest mangrove forest, located on Iriomote Island. Then hop onto a water buffalo cart and cross the shallow sea to Yubu Island, a small 2-kilometer island completely covered by a subtropical botanical garden. Enjoy a peaceful stroll through the island and savor a traditional Okinawan-style lunch at the garden’s restaurant. Iriomote Island, registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 2021, is home to rare and unique wildlife. The journey to Yubu Island by water buffalo cart offers scenic views of Okinawa’s signature shallow turquoise sea. A visit to the Wildlife Conservation Center is also included! Learn about the endangered Iriomote wild cat and other local wildlife through exhibits and videos. Please note: The center is closed on Mondays (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday), June 23 (Okinawan Memorial Day), and year-end holidays (Dec 29 – Jan 3). Entry may also be skipped on busy days or for maintenance. This is a relaxing and popular course that can be enjoyed by everyone from young children to seniors, offering a slow-paced journey through the natural beauty of Iriomote and Yubu Islands.
