After enjoying a boat cruise through Nakama River, home to Japan’s largest mangrove forest on Iriomote Island, ride a water buffalo cart across the shallow sea to Yubu Island. This small island, approximately 2km in circumference, is a subtropical botanical garden. Enjoy a walk around the island and savor a traditional Okinawan-style lunch at the on-site restaurant. Iriomote Island, registered as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in 2021, is home to many rare plants and animals. During the water buffalo cart ride to Yubu Island, enjoy scenic views of Okinawa’s shallow seas. The tour also stops by the Wildlife Conservation Center, a base for protecting the Iriomote wildcat. You can view specimens and video materials about the Iriomote wildcat and other animals inhabiting Iriomote Island—animals that are rarely seen even on the island. ※Please note that the stop may be skipped on the center’s closing days or during peak congestion. Closed: Every Monday (or the following Tuesday if Monday is a public holiday), June 23 (Okinawa Memorial Day), and New Year holidays (Dec 29–Jan 3). ※Additional closures may occur due to local events or specimen fumigation.     Immersion in the nature of iriomote

    Nice day full of differents guided visits, some free time and the possibility of taste local food It’s a big limit and a pity that all the explications about the mangrovian cruise and I think the history of the island are just in Japanese because I think they would have been really interesting and I’d really have appreciated to have even just a little paper with some explications in English

    水牛車とオオゴマダラのメタリックなさなぎ、鳥獣類の剥製。

    この予約は、八重山観光フェリーに直接申し込むと変動があろうが、1100円安くなる場合がある。 他の予約サイトを利用するよりも、検索し、主催業者が判明したら、直接の予約がベター。 船は快適に進み50分は速い。下船したらマングローブ観察の船に乗り換えるが、大変面白い 船長である。口調、語り、内容に聞きほれる。バスに乗り、移動するが、バスの運転手も話が上手い。行きも帰りも何か語れば、もっと良いと思います。 水牛車はのんびりとして良い。観察していると、水牛は自らくびきを角で引っ掛け、首にとりつけ、仕事が終われば、首と角をうまく使ってくびきを外すのは見事でありました。 食事はワンプレートで十分にたりました。 オオゴマダラという蝶は重たそうにハタハタと飛びかう。さなぎがメタリックな金色で沢山ぶら下がっていたが、これが自然の不思議だとつくづく思う。さなぎの横に生まれた蝶が静かに飛ぶ準備をしていた。博物館は猫、鳥類等沢山あり、興味深い。イリオモテヤマネコの耳に白っぽい斑点があるというが、耳の先が全体に白っぽい。 なぜ、西表島と奄美大島に固有種が存在するのか、実に興味深い。 少し調べないといけない。 マングローブの船長の話で、ヒルギという樹木は切り倒すと直ぐに硬くなるというのがあり、長年の疑問が一つ氷解した。

    大自然満喫

    仲間川マングローブクルーズは、キャプテンのお話が面白かったです。マングローブについて、西表島について勉強にもなりました。 由布島へ水牛さんに乗せて貰い、唄に揺られて行くのが貴重な体験でした。 天気も快晴で、人もそこまで多くなく、西表島と由布島を満喫できて大満足です。
